Every minute, automated bots scan for vulnerabilities.

They probe ports, test passwords, and look for any way inside your system.

I learned this the hard way in 2019 when one of my WordPress sites got compromised. We had all the usual security plugins, but we forgot the most basic protection: a proper firewall.

The attackers found an open port we didn't even know existed and used it to inject malware into every page.

That incident taught me something crucial: firewalls aren't just helpful. They're essential. The stats back this up too. Check Point's 2025 report shows cyber attacks increased 47% globally, with 20.5 million DDoS attacks blocked in Q1 2025 alone.

Here's how a properly configured VPS firewall with SSD Nodes Firewall Groups protects five different types of servers from the most common attacks.

Firewall Use Cases

How to Setup a VPS Firewall

This article will walk you through how to setup a VPS firewall and explain why you need a firewall in the first place. As well as going through 5 essiential firewall use cases.

Note: SSD Nodes Advanced Firewall Groups is a paid add-on you can assign to your server during checkout or in your dashboard from the Add-ons tab. For less than half a cup of coffee per month, you get the peace of mind that your servers aren't sitting wide open to attackers.

1. Website Protection: Stopping the Flood Before It Starts

Web servers face the most diverse attacks in 2025. DDoS attacks now reach record-breaking volumes of 11.5 Tbps, while hackers constantly probe for SQL injection points and brute force admin panels.

These attacks happen automatically through botnets that scan every IP address on the internet looking for vulnerable WordPress installations, exposed admin panels, or misconfigured services.

WordPress sites get hit especially hard because of their popularity and plugin ecosystem. Q1 2025 data shows WordPress vulnerabilities increased 24%, with 58.86% requiring no authentication to exploit.

The most dangerous attacks target the wp-options table where malware gets stored, and checkout forms in WooCommerce stores where credit card data flows.

How SSD Nodes Firewall Groups Protect Your Website

With the increasing danger of malicious attacks. Here is a quick step by step guide to protect your website with SSD Nodes Firewall Groups:

Step 1: Create a Web Server Group

  • Open your SSD Nodes dashboard and go to Firewall Groups
  • Click "Create Group" and name it "Web Server Protection"
  • Set direction to "Inbound"

Step 2: Allow Essential Web Traffic

  • Click the ⚙ icon of the "Web Server Protection" group. Then “Create Rule”.
  • Create rule 1: Accept TCP port 80 (HTTP) from all sources
  • Create rule 2: Accept TCP port 443 (HTTPS) from all sources
  • Create rule 3: Accept TCP port 22 (SSH) from your office IP only

Step 3: Block Everything Else

  • Create rule 4: Drop all other TCP traffic from all sources

This catches port scans, unusual connection attempts, and unknown protocols

Step 4: Apply to Your Server

  • Link the firewall group to your web server
  • Click "Apply Rules" to activate protection

For detailed instructions check out our Introducing Firewall Groups article.

API Use Cases

This setup blocks 99% of automated attacks while keeping your site accessible.

The beauty of this configuration lies in its simplicity and effectiveness.

Most web attacks rely on finding open ports that shouldn't be exposed to the internet. By explicitly allowing only the ports your website actually needs and blocking everything else, you eliminate the attack surface that bots constantly probe.

The key security principle here is restricting SSH access to known IP addresses, which alone prevents most brute force attempts since attackers can't even reach the SSH service from unauthorized locations.

2. Game Server Security: Protecting Your Gaming Community

Gaming servers face massive DDoS attacks that often target both the server infrastructure and individual players.

These attacks aren't random, they're often coordinated efforts by rival gaming communities, cheaters trying to disrupt competitive matches, or extortion attempts against popular servers.

The scale has grown massively with the rise of gaming-as-a-service platforms and the increasing value of rare in-game items.

Counter-Strike 2 patched a vulnerability that exposed player IP addresses, which could lead to targeted DDoS attacks.

Minecraft servers were once vulnerable to a Log4j exploit that enabled remote code execution.

But you can prevent many of these attacks through a good firewall setup.

gaming server firewall

SSD Nodes Protection for Game Servers

Here how to use SSD Nodes Firewall Groups to protect your game servers:

Step 1: Identify Your Game Ports

  • Minecraft Java: TCP/UDP 25565
  • Valheim: UDP 2456-2458
  • Counter-Strike 2: UDP/TCP 27015
  • Rust: UDP 28015

Step 2: Create Game-Specific Rules

  • Allow your game's specific ports from all sources (players need access)
  • Allow SSH (port 22) from your admin IP only
  • Allow RCON or admin ports from trusted IPs only

Step 3: Monitor and Adjust

  • Check connection logs weekly
  • Add suspicious IP ranges to your block list
  • Update rules when your game updates ports

Gaming Server Firewall

Gaming firewalls need careful balance between security and accessibility. You need protection without blocking legitimate players from around the world.

The challenge though, lies in distinguishing between legit gaming traffic and malicious attacks since both often use similar protocols and patterns

3. Database Server Security: Your Last Line of Defense

Database attacks increased dramatically in 2025 as cybercriminals realized that databases contain the most valuable information.

These vulnerabilities demonstrate how even mature database systems face ongoing security challenges that require both patching and network-level protection.

Database servers should never face the open internet directly, yet many developers expose MySQL port 3306 or PostgreSQL port 5432 for convenience during development or testing. This practice creates massive security holes because database protocols weren't designed for internet exposure.

The Shodan search engine regularly finds thousands of exposed database instances with default credentials or no authentication at all. Even with strong passwords, direct database exposure increases attack surface and creates unnecessary risk.

Database Protection with SSD Nodes

To protect your database, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Create Database-Only Group

  • Name: "Database Server Access"
  • Direction: Inbound
  • Goal: Block everything except application servers

Step 2: Application Server Access Only

Allow TCP ports 3306 (MySQL) 5432 (PostgreSQL) 6379 (Redis) from your server IPs or localhost only.

Step 3: Admin Access

  • Allow SSH (port 22) from your admin workstation IP only
  • Never allow database ports from 0.0.0.0/0 (anywhere)
  • Use VPN if you need remote database access

Step 4: Backup and Monitoring

  • Allow necessary monitoring tools from specific IPs
  • Configure backup script access through internal network only

Database Server Firewall

The principle here is simple but critical: databases should only communicate with applications, never directly with the internet.

Every direct database connection from unknown IP addresses should trigger immediate security alerts. This network segmentation approach creates a security perimeter where even if application servers get compromised, the database remains protected behind additional access controls.

Modern cloud architectures support this through VPC networks, security groups, and private subnets that keep database traffic isolated from public internet access.

4. Development Environment Safety: Protecting Your Testing Ground

Development servers often have the worst security practices in any organization. Developers expose ports 3000, 8080, and 8000 for testing convenience, use default passwords because "it's just dev," and skip security updates to avoid breaking their development workflow.

This creates a false sense of security since development environments often contain production data copies, API keys, and source code that attackers find extremely valuable.

Attackers specifically hunt for development servers because they know these environments typically have weaker security controls while containing sensitive information about production systems.

SSD Nodes Dev Environment Protection

To secure your development environment, follow these steps in your SSD Nodes dashboard:

Step 1: Create Development Access Group

  • Name: "Dev Environment Access"
  • Plan for multiple development ports
  • Restrict access to your team only

Step 2: Common Development Ports

To secure access for development teams, a firewall should be configured to allow specific application ports only from authorized IP addresses. For example, allowing TCP port 3000 for React/Node.js development from office IPs, TCP port 8080 for alternative HTTP from team IPs, etc

Step 3: Team Access Management

  • Create IP whitelist for all team members
  • Update firewall rules when team members change
  • Use VPN for remote developers

Step 4: Staging Environment Rules

Always mirror production firewall rules in staging, and make sure to test security configurations before production deployment. And of course, never ever expose staging databases to the internet

Development firewall rules should mirror production security as closely as possible to catch configuration issues before they reach live systems.

This prevents the common problem where applications work perfectly in development but fail in production due to security restrictions.

Testing security configurations in development environments saves time and prevents outages caused by overly restrictive production firewalls that block legitimate application traffic.

5. API Server Security: Protecting Your Digital Interfaces

APIs face the worst attack landscape in 2025 because they've become the main way applications communicate and share data.

The most concerning trend is that 95% of API attacks come from authenticated users rather than external threats.

This is because of credential compromise, insider threats, or session hijacking attacks where legitimate user accounts get used for malicious purposes.

Traditional security fails against these attacks because the traffic appears legitimate from a network perspective.

REST APIs face broken object-level authorization attacks where users can access data they shouldn't see by manipulating object IDs in API calls. GraphQL APIs deal with query complexity attacks where deeply nested queries consume server resources, and introspection abuse where attackers map out the entire API schema to find vulnerabilities.

Both API types require careful rate limiting, input validation, and access control that goes beyond simple network filtering.

Your API Protection Essientials

Step 1: Create API Access Group

  • Name: "API Server Protection"
  • Secure HTTP and HTTPS traffic

Step 2: Basic API Access Rules

  • Allow TCP port 443 (HTTPS)
  • Allow TCP port 80 (HTTP)
  • Block all non-HTTP protocols

API Server Firewall

Make sure to also use rate limit to prevent your server from being abused.

API firewalls work best when combined with application-layer protection becasue network-level filtering can only do so much.

Emergency SSH Lockdown: Complete Access Denial

Sometimes you need to completely shut down SSH access to your server. Maybe you detected suspicious login attempts. Maybe you're running maintenance and want zero external connections. Or maybe you just want peace of mind while you're away.

One Reddit user asked exactly this:

"How do you deny all incoming connections to SSH port 22 via cloud firewall? I want to deny all incoming TCP traffic to SSH port to prevent connecting. If I want to connect via SSH again I would simply remove the rule from the dashboard."

This is actually a smart security practice. Complete SSH denial creates an air gap that no attacker can cross.

Complete SSH Lockdown with SSD Nodes

Step 1: Create Emergency Lockdown Group

  • Go to your SSD Nodes Firewall Groups dashboard
  • Create new group: "Emergency SSH Lockdown"
  • Set direction to "Inbound"

Step 2: Create the Lockdown Rule

  • Protocol: TCP
  • Port: 22
  • Source: All
  • Action: Drop
  • Description: "Emergency SSH lockdown - remove to restore access"

Step 3: Apply the Lockdown

  • Link this group to your server
  • Click "Apply Rules"

SSH access will now be completely blocked.

Step 4: Restore Access When Needed

  • Simply unlink the firewall group from your server
  • Or delete the specific SSH drop rule

SSH access should return immediately.

Real-World Firewall Implementation Tips

Setting up firewall rules takes planning. So you must start simple with basic port allow/deny rules, then add complexity as you get comfortable with the system.

Overly complex initial configurations often create security holes or block legitimate traffic.
And please keep your rules current through regular maintenance.

Review firewall logs weekly to spot attack patterns and check for legitimate traffic getting blocked.

Update rules when services change ports or IP addresses, and remove outdated exceptions that just add unnecessary complexity.

Also, plan for emergencies before you need them, and test these emergency procedures regularly and document the steps so your team can use them during actual emergencies.

The Cost of Not Having a Firewall

Unprotected servers don't last long in 2025. Ransomware attacks increased 126% Year over Year in 2025, while the average data breach costs $4.88 million.

Small businesses think they're safe, but automated attacks don't discriminate. Bots scan every IP address on the internet. They probe every port. They test every common password.

Sure, a firewall won't stop every attack, but it does stop the easy ones. And most attacks are easy ones . bots looking for quick wins, not sophisticated hackers targeting your specific business.

Beyond Basic Protection

SSD Nodes' Firewall Groups give you enterprise-level protection through a simple interface. You don't need to memorize iptables commands or worry about locking yourself out of your server.

The key is thinking defensively.

Every open port is a potential entry point. Every service needs justification. Every rule needs a purpose.

Set up your firewall rules today. Your future self will thank you when the next wave of attacks hits. Check out SSD Nodes' Firewall Groups in your dashboard.

Best Cheap Black Friday VPS Deals for November 2025 https://www.ssdnodes.com/blog/best-cheap-black-friday-vps-deals-for-november-2025/ https://www.ssdnodes.com/blog/best-cheap-black-friday-vps-deals-for-november-2025/#respond Fri, 28 Nov 2025 18:10:46 +0000 https://www.ssdnodes.com/?p=14437 It is November 2025, and Black Friday VPS deals are flooding your inbox right now.

But the thing is, these deals hit differently when you actually run the numbers.

Most hosting providers advertise massive percentage discounts that sound impressive in headlines but don't translate to meaningful savings. Some offer genuine long-term value. The difference between the two? Hundreds or thousands of dollars depending on your infrastructure needs.

This guide cuts through the promotional noise to identify the best cheap Black Friday VPS deals for 2025 based on total cost rather than marketing percentages. You'll see exactly what you save, where providers hide costs, and which deals actually deliver.

Note: For Cyber Monday, check out Cyber Monday VPS Deals

Short Summary: Best Cheap Black Friday VPS Deals for 2025

This Black Friday 2025 guide covers the most compelling VPS deals we've identified:

  1. SSD Nodes: Up to 75% OFF
  2. Cloudways: 50% Off for 3 Months
  3. Liquid Web: 50% OFF Managed VPS
  4. Kinsta: 50% OFF for First 6 Months
  5. ScalaHosting: Up to 80% OFF Managed VPS

1. SSD Nodes: Up to 75% OFF

Black Friday VPS Deals

SSD Nodes takes Black Friday seriously with 40% off all plans and cycles, creating savings that reach up to 75% compared to paying monthly at regular rates.

Here's what makes this deal stand out: SSD Nodes already operates at the low end of market pricing. The Black Friday discount applies on top of that low price rather than temporarily reducing inflated regular rates.

Pricing example for a 16GB RAM server:

  • Regular monthly billing: $28/month × 36 months = $1,008
  • Standard 3-year commitment: $393
  • Black Friday 3-year price: $236 (40% off commitment pricing, and 75% off regular monthly pricing)

That Black Friday price works out to about $6.55/month over three years. The discount locks in for your entire term. No rate increases after year one, no surprise adjustments mid-contract.

What you get:

  • 16GB RAM
  • 4 vCPU
  • 320GB SSD storage
  • 8TB/month outbound transfer
  • Full root access
  • Choice of Linux distributions
  • Optional add-ons (API access $2/month, IPv6 instead of IPv4 saves you an additional $54 over 3 years)

SSD Nodes maintains this pricing through operational efficiency. The proprietary Vippy virtualization technology eliminates expensive licensing costs. Direct partnerships with Hivelocity and major network providers secure favorable infrastructure rates that get passed through to customers.

2. Cloudways: 50% Off for 3 Months (Managed Convenience)

cloudways black friday vps deals

Cloudways operates a bit differently from traditional VPS providers. They resell infrastructure from DigitalOcean, Vultr, AWS, Google Cloud, and Linode, adding managed hosting features on top.

Black Friday offer:

  • 50% off for 3 months on all plans
  • 40 free site migrations included
  • Promo Code: BFCM5050
  • Valid: November 12 – December 5, 2025

The Black Friday discount cuts your first three months to half price, then returns to standard rates. For a $42/month plan, that's $63 saved upfront.

Cloudways targets users who want cloud infrastructure performance without handling server management themselves. The managed layer adds convenience and cost. If you need that simplification, the Black Friday deal provides three months to evaluate the platform at reduced rates.

However, if you're comfortable with standard VPS administration, the managed layer may not justify the premium price.

3. Liquid Web: 50% OFF Managed VPS

Liquid Web takes a different approach to Black Friday VPS hosting with discounts that lock in for your entire contract term rather than reverting after a few months.

Pricing example (comparable specs):

  • Entry managed VPS: ~$25/month regular rate
  • Black Friday discount: 50% off locked for full commitment
  • Effective rate: ~$12.50/month throughout your contract term

That pricing includes fully managed services that would cost extra elsewhere. The 50% discount applies consistently across year one, year two, and beyond within your commitment period.

What fully managed includes:

  • Complete server administration and setup
  • Automatic OS and software patching
  • 24/7 performance monitoring and alerts
  • DDoS protection and firewall management
  • Daily automated backups (30-day retention)
  • Expert support team with priority response

Liquid Web operates enterprise-grade cloud hardware across 4 global data center locations with a 100% network uptime guarantee—not the industry-standard 99.9%.

The deal makes sense for mission-critical websites where downtime translates to lost revenue, e-commerce platforms, or organizations without dedicated IT staff. The managed premium eliminates server administration work, but costs 3-4x more than unmanaged alternatives.

4. Kinsta: 50% OFF for First 6 Months

Kinsta positions itself as premium managed WordPress VPS hosting with Black Friday promotions that reduce entry costs temporarily.

Black Friday offer:

  • 50% off for first 6 months on monthly plans
  • 6 months free with annual commitments
  • Regular rates: $60-$150+/month depending on tier

Pricing structure:

  • Monthly plans: 50% off months 1-6, then full pricing returns
  • Annual plans: Effectively 50% discount on yearly commitment
  • Total first-year savings: Approximately 25-50% depending on billing cycle

Kinsta doesn't compete on being the cheapest option. They target users prioritizing reliability and performance over minimum pricing.

What's included:

  • Enterprise-grade managed WordPress VPS on Google Cloud Platform
  • Automatic daily backups with 30-day retention
  • Built-in CDN for global content delivery
  • Staging environments for safe testing
  • Auto-scaling based on traffic demands
  • 24/7 expert support with priority response
  • Advanced caching and DDoS protection

After the promotional period ends, pricing returns to standard rates without long-term price locks. Kinsta works well for WordPress sites where performance and uptime matter more than hitting rock-bottom costs, agencies managing multiple client WordPress sites, or businesses where site downtime translates to lost revenue.

5. ScalaHosting: Up to 80% OFF Managed VPS

ScalaHosting offers substantial Black Friday discounts on managed VPS hosting, though the promotional pricing structure differs from locked-rate providers.

Pricing example:

  • Entry managed VPS: ~$14.95/month during promotional period
  • Black Friday discount: Up to 80% off first term
  • Renewal rate: Standard managed pricing (~$50-60/month)

The discount applies aggressively to your initial commitment, then returns to standard rates. This is typical for managed hosting providers who absorb ongoing support costs.

Key features included:

  • SPanel control panel (proprietary cPanel alternative, no separate licensing fees)
  • Daily automated backups with 30-day retention
  • Regular security patching and OS updates
  • SShield anti-malware protection (proprietary security system)
  • 24/7 technical support
  • Free SSL certificates and migrations

ScalaHosting runs on NVMe SSD storage with KVM virtualization across global data centers in the US, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. Their 99.9% uptime guarantee backs the infrastructure.

The deal works well for agencies managing multiple client sites who benefit from included control panel access, or users wanting managed hosting without application-specific limitations. Calculate total cost across your planning timeframe since renewal rates return to standard managed VPS pricing.

Do You Really Save Money on Black Friday VPS Deals?

Yes, but only when the deals are structured in specific ways.

Genuine savings emerge from offers that combine three elements: already-competitive regular pricing, meaningful discounts applied to extended commitments, and locked rates that persist throughout your entire contract.

Deals that deliver actual savings:

  • Providers operating efficiently who apply discounts on top of already-low regular rates
  • Extended commitments (2-3 years) where promotional rates stay locked
  • Transparent pricing that separates included features from paid add-ons
  • Consistent rates throughout the contract without surprise increases

Deals that sound better than they perform:

  • Massive percentage discounts from providers whose regular rates are inflated
  • Promotional rates that expire after the first billing cycle
  • Initial pricing that multiplies at renewal time
  • Essential features priced as add-ons that only appear after signup

The math tells the real story, not the marketing.

A 40% discount on a $252 three-year plan delivers more actual savings than a 67% discount that only lasts two years before tripling.

Calculate what you'll actually spend over your real usage timeline. That's how you separate promotional percentages that mean something from ones that just look good in subject lines.

How Much Do VPS Prices Actually Drop During Black Friday?

The variation is significant. Some promotional prices barely undercut what efficient competitors charge year-round, while others slash total costs by over $1,000 compared to monthly billing at standard rates.

Budget Providers (efficient year-round):

  • Regular pricing: Already 60-85% below market rates
  • Black Friday discount: Another 30-50% off commitment pricing
  • Combined savings: 70-80% versus month-to-month at standard rates

Mid-Tier Providers:

  • Regular pricing: Market average or moderately above
  • Black Friday discount: 40-60% off, typically first-term only
  • Combined savings: 40-50% during promotion, diminishes over multiple years

Premium Managed Providers:

  • Regular pricing: 2-4x what budget alternatives charge
  • Black Friday discount: 40-50% for limited periods
  • Combined savings: Temporarily brings pricing closer to standard VPS rates

What Makes a VPS Black Friday Deal Actually Worth It?

Three factors separate Black Friday VPS deals that provide real value from those offering mostly marketing noise.

1. Total Cost Significantly Undercuts Regular Pricing

Calculate what you'll actually pay over your full usage period. Not just monthly rate times number of months. Factor in renewal rates, necessary add-ons, and any fees that activate after the promotion ends.

A deal saving $50 initially but adding $200 at renewal doesn't deliver value. A deal locking in $400 of savings across three years provides real benefit, regardless of whether the "discount percentage" sounds as impressive.

2. Promotional Rates Lock Through Your Complete Commitment

Promotional pricing that switches back to standard rates after three or six months delivers minimal value. You're essentially prepaying for a brief discount before returning to regular pricing.

Real price locks maintain your Black Friday rate for your complete commitment term. That's what generates compounding savings.

3. Regular Pricing Was Already Competitive

Deals from providers with efficient operations outperform sales from expensive ones.

Review regular pricing before getting excited about discount percentages. Providers with elevated base rates frequently run "sales" that merely bring them down to what budget providers charge normally.

Black Friday VPS Deals FAQ

When do Black Friday VPS deals typically start?

Most providers launch Black Friday promotions in early to mid-November and extend them through early December. Some continue through Cyber Monday (December 1-2, 2025) or the first complete week of December.

Early-bird promotions frequently match or exceed Black Friday pricing, so waiting for the specific date isn't always beneficial.

Can I upgrade my existing VPS during Black Friday?

This varies by provider. Some extend promotional pricing to upgrades for current customers. Others restrict Black Friday deals to new purchases exclusively.

Review specific provider terms. If upgrades aren't covered, you might consider purchasing a new server at promotional rates and migrating your current setup.

Are Black Friday VPS deals only for annual or longer commitments?

Most substantial discounts require annual, two-year, or three-year commitments. Monthly billing seldom qualifies for meaningful Black Friday savings.

Conclusion: Which Black Friday VPS Deal Should You Choose?

The best cheap Black Friday VPS deal varies based on your particular situation.

But the core principle stays constant: calculate total cost over your real planning timeline. Percentage discounts sound compelling. Dollar savings matter more.

Black Friday presents opportunities for meaningful infrastructure savings when you target providers who already maintain competitive VPS pricing and enhance that advantage with promotional discounts that lock in throughout your full commitment.

Best Cyber Monday VPS Deals – December 2025 (Up to 75% Off) https://www.ssdnodes.com/blog/cyber-monday-vps-deals-2025/ https://www.ssdnodes.com/blog/cyber-monday-vps-deals-2025/#respond Thu, 27 Nov 2025 21:26:23 +0000 https://www.ssdnodes.com/?p=14851 2025 Cyber Monday VPS Deals have arrived this December, and your inbox is ringing non-stop with promotions.

Which ones are worth it?

We've analyzed the math behind the current Cyber Monday's biggest VPS promotions. This breakdown shows total costs, reveals hidden renewal pricing, and identifies which deals actually reduce your VPS infrastructure spend, not just for December, but across your entire contract term.

Short Summary: Best Cyber Monday VPS Deals for 2025

The strongest Cyber Monday VPS offers we found for 2025:

  • SSD Nodes: Up to 75% OFF + Free Snapshots
  • Cloudways: 50% Off for 3 Months
  • HostNoc: 60% OFF All Servers & Hosting
  • BitLaunch: Up to 20% Bonus on Deposits

1. SSD Nodes: Up to 75% OFF + Free Snapshots

Cyber Monday VPS Deals 2025

SSD Nodes combines a 30% discount across all billing cycles with free snapshots (normally $2/month each), stacking discounts that reach 75% when compared to month-to-month billing at the standard rates.

The value driver here isn't promotional inflation. SSD Nodes operates at the budget end of VPS pricing year-round. This Cyber Monday discount reduces already-low rates further rather than temporarily masking high regular pricing.

8GB RAM server breakdown:

  • Monthly billing at regular rates: $15 × 36 months = $540
  • Standard 3-year prepay: $198
  • Cyber Monday 3-year rate: $139 (30% off)
  • Free snapshots bonus: $72 saved over 36 months
  • Total 3-year cost: $139 (effective $3.86/month)

The discount applies to your complete term. SSD Nodes doesn't adjust rates after year one or get you into mid-contract price changes.

Server specifications:

  • 8GB RAM, 2 vCPU cores
  • 160GB NVMe SSD storage
  • Full root access with KVM virtualization
  • Linux distributions: Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux
  • Free snapshot backups (saves $72 over 3 years)

SSD Nodes achieves competitive pricing through proprietary Vippy virtualization (no licensing fees) and direct infrastructure partnerships with Hivelocity and major carriers.

Global presence: 14 locations including Seattle, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney, Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo, and Toronto.

2. Cloudways: 50% Off for 3 Months (Managed Convenience)

Cyber Monday VPS Deals 2025 - Cloudways

Cloudways resells infrastructure from DigitalOcean, Vultr, AWS, Google Cloud, and Linode while adding managed hosting layers on top.

Cyber Monday promotion:

  • 50% off first 3 months across all tiers
  • 40 free site migrations
  • Promo Code: BFCM5050
  • Available through early December 2025

The discount halves your first quarter's costs before reverting to standard managed rates. A $42/month plan saves $63 upfront, useful for evaluating whether Cloudways' managed features justify ongoing premium pricing.

Cloudways serves users wanting cloud performance without direct server management. The managed layer eliminates Linux administration complexity while adding 3-4x cost compared to unmanaged alternatives. If server management isn't your strength, the convenience delivers value. If you're comfortable with terminal access and SSH, the premium may not justify itself.

3. HostNoc: 60% OFF All Servers & Hosting

HostNoc runs Cyber Monday with 60% reductions across their complete product range: VPS, dedicated servers, cloud hosting, and shared web hosting.

Cyber Monday terms:

  • 60% discount on all server and hosting products
  • 99.99% uptime SLA
  • Locked rates without mid-term increases
  • Active through early December 2025

VPS Hosting: From $12.75/month

Entry VPS (HN-SSD I):

  • Standard rate: $31.88/month
  • Cyber Monday rate: $12.75/month
  • Configuration: 2 vCPU, 4GB RAM, 300GB SSD
  • Network: Unmetered bandwidth on 200 Mbit/s port

HostNoc's VPS targets developers, small ecommerce operations, and agencies scaling infrastructure on constrained budgets.

Dedicated Servers: From $22.50/month

Budget dedicated option (HN-CD-5):

  • Regular pricing: $56.25/month
  • Cyber Monday pricing: $22.50/month
  • Hardware: Intel Atom C2750 2.4GHz (8c/8t), 8GB DDR3, 1TB HDD
  • Network: Unmetered @ 1 Gbps (Paris datacenter)

HostNoc's Approach

HostNoc operates transparent pricing that locks Cyber Monday rates through your commitment period. No surprise renewals, no hidden post-promotion adjustments.

Infrastructure spans Los Angeles, Dallas, London, Amsterdam, Paris, and Montreal with enterprise DDoS protection and instant provisioning.

Technical note:

Most HostNoc plans are unmanaged or semi-managed. You handle server administration, security patching, and support.

4. BitLaunch: Up to 20% Bonus on Every Deposit

Cyber Monday structure: 20% account credit bonus on deposits

Target Users

BitLaunch serves privacy-focused users, cryptocurrency enthusiasts, self-hosting developers, and affiliate marketers requiring anonymous infrastructure.

Server Management

This is completely unmanaged hosting. Server administration, security updates, software installation, monitoring, and troubleshooting responsibility are entirely on you.

Real Savings with Cyber Monday VPS Deals

Genuine Cyber Monday savings require three simultaneous conditions: competitive initial pricing, meaningful percentage reductions on long term commitments, and locked rates lasting your complete contract term.

Deals that actually save you money:

  • Providers who already charge low prices, then discount further
  • Multi-year plans where the sale price stays locked the whole time
  • Clear pricing with no surprise fees after you sign up
  • Rates that don't randomly increase halfway through your contract

Deals that look better than they are:

  • Huge percentage discounts from companies with already-expensive regular prices
  • Sale prices that only last one billing cycle, then jump back up
  • Cheap first year, then triple the price when you renew
  • Hidden costs for basic features that only show up after checkout

Do the actual math on what you'll spend. A $139 three-year plan with free snapshots beats a "67% off" deal that only lasts one year before jumping to premium pricing.

How Much Do VPS Prices Actually Drop During Cyber Monday?

The price drops vary wildly. Some "sales" barely beat what budget providers charge every day. Others can save you $500-1,000+ compared to paying month-to-month.

Budget providers (cheap year-round):

  • Normal prices: Already 60-85% cheaper than average
  • Cyber Monday discount: Another 30-40% off
  • Total savings: 70-80% compared to paying monthly

Mid-range providers:

  • Normal prices: Around market average
  • Cyber Monday discount: 40-60% off (usually first year only)
  • Total savings: 40-50% during the promo, then savings drop when you renew

Premium managed hosts:

  • Normal prices: 2-4x more expensive than budget options
  • Cyber Monday discount: 40-50% off for a limited time
  • Total savings: Temporarily drops to what regular unmanaged VPS costs

What Makes a Cyber Monday VPS Deal Worth It?

Three things separate real deals from marketing hype.

1. You Actually Pay Less Overall

Calculate what you'll spend over the whole time you'll use the server. Don't just do monthly price times months. Check renewal rates, add-on fees, and costs that appear after the promo ends.

Saving $50 now but paying $200 extra later isn't a deal. Saving $400 over three years is, even if the percentage discount sounds smaller.

2. The Sale Price Stays Locked

Promos that jump back to normal rates after 3-6 months aren't worth much. You're just prepaying for a short discount before prices go back up.

Good deals lock your Cyber Monday rate for your entire contract. That's where real savings stack up.

3. Their Normal Price Was Already Good

Deals from cheap providers beat sales from expensive ones.

Check their regular pricing before you get excited about percentages. Expensive hosts often run "sales" that just match what budget providers charge normally.

Cyber Monday VPS Deals FAQ

When do Cyber Monday VPS deals start?

Most providers start their Cyber Monday sales in late November after Black Friday and run them into early December. Cyber Monday 2025 is December 1st.

Early deals often match or beat Cyber Monday prices. You usually don't get a better deal by waiting for the actual day.

Can I upgrade my current VPS during Cyber Monday?

Depends on the provider. Some give current customers the promo pricing on upgrades. Others only offer deals to new customers.

Check the fine print. If upgrades don't qualify, consider buying a new server at the sale price and moving your stuff over.

Do Cyber Monday VPS deals work with monthly billing?

Rarely. Most good discounts require you to prepay for a year, two years, or three years. Monthly plans usually don't get meaningful Cyber Monday discounts.

Conclusion: Which Cyber Monday VPS Deal Should You Pick?

The best deal depends on what you need and how comfortable you are managing servers.

But the rule stays the same: calculate what you'll actually spend over the time you'll use it. Big percentage discounts grab attention. Real dollar savings are what count.

Cyber Monday gives you real savings when you choose providers who already price competitively, then add discounts that stay locked for your entire contract.

Most aren't worth opening.

Some providers slash prices for month one, then hit you with full rates afterward. Others discount overpriced plans that still cost more than competitors' regular pricing. A few offer genuine savings that compound over years.

The difference can be hundreds or thousands of dollars depending on your hosting needs.

This guide cuts through the marketing noise. You'll learn what makes a Black Friday VPS deal genuinely valuable versus just flashy advertising. And you'll see the math behind why certain deals save real money while others waste it.

What Really Matters in a Black Friday Deal

Before you evaluate any Black Friday VPS deal, you need to understand what actually determines value. Most providers want you focused on percentage discounts because those numbers look impressive in headlines. But percentages obscure the real cost. What matters is total spending over your commitment period, how long favorable pricing lasts, and whether advertised prices reflect what you'll actually pay. These three factors determine whether a deal saves you money or just sounds like it does.

1. Total Cost Over Your Planning Timeline

A 16GB VPS at $28/month costs $1,008 over three years at regular monthly billing. If a Black Friday deal offers that same server for $393 total on a three-year commitment, you save $615.

That's real savings.

But if another provider advertises "60% off" and their discounted three-year price is still $900? You're saving less than the first example, despite the bigger percentage.

Calculate total cost, not discount percentages.

2. Price Lock Duration

Some deals lock in pricing for your entire term. Others revert to regular rates after the first year.

Example: Provider A offers a 16GB server at $20/month for year one, then $80/month afterward. Provider B offers that same server at $28/month locked in for three years.

Year one: Provider A costs $240, Provider B costs $336
Three years: Provider A costs $2,160, Provider B costs $1,008

Provider B saves you $1,152 despite costing more initially. The lock-in matters more than the first-year discount.

3. Feature Transparency and Hidden Costs

Some "deals" hide what's actually included versus what costs extra. The problem isn't add-ons themselves; it's lack of clarity about them.

Watch for providers that do some of the following practices:

  • Bundle mandatory "security packages" into the final price without disclosure
  • Require expensive control panels for basic server management
  • Hide backup costs until after purchase
  • Advertise one price but require additional purchases for a functional server
  • Make it unclear which add-ons are truly optional versus essential

The key is transparency. Providers that clearly show base pricing and let you choose optional add-ons (like enhanced networking features, API access, or additional IP addresses) based on your actual needs? That's honest business. Providers that hide the real cost? That's a problem.

Always check what the advertised price actually gets you, and calculate the fully-loaded cost including any features you'll realistically need.

With SSD Nodes, you can always customize your server and choose the specific features you need when purchasing a server.

The Math Behind Real Savings

Black Friday VPS Deals Calculations

Let's compare actual Black Friday scenarios using real-world pricing. We'll look at an 8GB RAM server over three years:

Scenario A: SSD Nodes Regular Pricing

  • Regular monthly price: $17/month
  • Regular three-year cost (monthly billing): $612
  • Three-year commitment price: $252
  • What you get: 8GB RAM, 2 vCPU, 160GB SSD storage, full-featured VPS
  • Price locked for full term
  • Optional add-ons clearly disclosed: IPv6 instead of IPv4 saves $54 over 3 years, API access $2/month, firewall $2/month

Scenario B: SSD Nodes Black Friday Deal (40% off)

  • Three-year commitment: $252
  • Black Friday three-year commitment: $151 (40% off)
  • Actual savings: $461 compared to monthly billing, $101 compared to the regular commitment
  • Price locked for full term
  • Same transparent add-on structure

Scenario C: Competitor "Marketing Deal"

  • Regular monthly price: $48/month
  • "Black Friday Special": 50% off first year
  • Year one cost: $288
  • Years 2-3 at full price: $1,152
  • Total three-year cost: $1,440
  • Actual savings: $288 (17% over three years)
  • Price increases after year one
  • Hidden costs for control panel, backups may apply

Scenario D: Competitor "Fake Deal"

  • Regular price (historically): $48/month
  • Price raised before Black Friday: $60/month
  • "Black Friday Sale": $48/month (20% off!)
  • Three-year cost: $1,728
  • Actual savings: $0 (back to original price)
  • Marketing creates illusion of discount

Putting it all together

If we compare the total three-year costs, we’ll have the following:

  • Scenario B (SSD Nodes Black Friday): $151
  • Scenario A (SSD Nodes regular commitment): $252
  • Scenario C (competitor discount): $1,440
  • Scenario D (fake discount): $1,728

The difference between the best deal and the fake deal is $1,577 over three years. That's not a simple rounding error. That's enough to fund additional servers, development tools, or marketing budget.

VPS Hosting Pricing Overview

What Really Matters in a Black Friday VPS Deal

The VPS hosting market has dramatic price variation for identical specifications. Current three-year pricing for an 8GB server (as of November 2025) is as follows:

  • Low end: $252-$468
  • Mid-range: $1,077-$1,440
  • High end: $1,728-$2,160

The gap between lowest and highest reaches $1,908. That's not a typo. Two providers offering the same specs can differ by 750%.

This happens because of operational efficiency differences. Providers using proprietary technology or direct data center partnerships operate cheaper than those who have huge marketing budgets.

Black Friday deals from already-affordable providers compound these savings further. Deals from expensive providers often just bring them closer to competitors' regular pricing.

Red Flags That Signal a Weak Deal

Not all Black Friday deals deliver real value, and some actively work against your interests. Certain patterns consistently appear in deals that sound good but cost more than advertised or lock you into unfavorable terms. Learning to recognize these warning signs helps you avoid expensive mistakes disguised as savings opportunities. Here are the most common red flags you'll encounter.

Limited commitment options: If they only offer monthly billing even during Black Friday, you can't lock in long-term savings. The deal disappears after the promotion ends.

Unclear regular pricing: When you can't easily find what the server costs after the promotional period, that's intentional. They're hiding the price increase.

Introductory rate disclaimers: Fine print like "then $XX/month thereafter" means your savings evaporate after the promotion. Calculate the full-term cost including rate increases.

Lack of feature transparency: Deals that don't clearly list what's included often exclude essentials. You'll discover the hidden costs after purchase.

What Makes SSD Nodes' Approach Different

Most of this guide focuses on industry patterns rather than specific providers. But transparency matters, so here's how we structure our Black Friday deals:

We already offer the market's lowest regular VPS pricing. An 8GB server costs $252 for three years compared to $1,440-$2,160 at many competitors. That's 85-90% lower year-round.

Our Black Friday deals take those already-low prices even lower. The savings compound because you're discounting from an efficient baseline rather than from inflated regular rates.

More importantly, our deals feature:

True price locks: Your Black Friday rate applies for your entire commitment term. No year-two increases, no surprise rate adjustments.

Transparent full-term pricing: We show monthly, annual, and three-year costs upfront. You can calculate total savings immediately.

Clear optional add-ons: Base servers include all essential features. Optional add-ons like API access ($2/month), firewall protection ($2/month), or choosing IPv6 over IPv4 (saves $54 on three-year plans) are clearly marked and genuinely optional. You only pay for what you actually need.

This approach stems from our core operational advantages:

  1. Vippy Technology: Our proprietary virtualization platform eliminates expensive licensing costs. Those savings go directly to pricing.
  2. Strategic Partnerships: Direct relationships with Hivelocity (40+ data centers) and network providers like Hurricane Electric, GTT, Telia, and Cogent secure favorable rates we pass to customers.
  3. Operational Efficiency: Our focused team of engineers optimizes everything. Less overhead means lower prices without sacrificing quality.

The result: Black Friday deals that represent genuine additional savings on top of already-competitive regular pricing.

How to Evaluate Any Black Friday VPS Deal

Step 1: Define Your Actual Needs

Start with concrete requirements: How much RAM, CPU, and storage do you need? What's your expected traffic and growth rate? Do you need specific features like API access or nested virtualization?

Avoid buying more than you need just because it's "on sale." A deal on a 32GB server doesn't help if 16GB handles your workload fine.

Step 2: Calculate True Total Cost

For any deal you're considering, you must note the advertised price, then determine how long that price applies, and find the regular rate that kicks in afterward.

You must also calculate cost over your full planning timeline (usually 1-3 years)

And don’t forget to add any required fees for essential features.

This reveals the real savings, not just the marketed discount.

Step 3: Compare Across Providers

Look at total cost for your specific requirements across multiple providers. Include at least one budget provider, at least one mid-tier provider, and your current provider if applicable.

Focus on total cost, not percentage discounts. A 20% discount from a low-price provider often beats a 50% discount from an expensive one.

Check out our VPS Pricing comparison for a full overview of VPS prices across providers.

Step 4: Verify Features

Make sure you're comparing equivalent offerings: same RAM, CPU, and storage specs; similar network performance and bandwidth limits; comparable support availability; and equivalent included features.

A cheaper deal missing critical features isn't actually cheaper once you add them back in.

Step 5: Check Price Lock Terms

Confirm how long promotional pricing lasts: Does it apply for your full commitment? What's the rate after the promotional period? Can the provider increase prices mid-term?

Long-term price locks matter more than deep short-term discounts.

The Long-Term Value Calculation

Hosting costs compound over time, which means the gap between good and bad deals widens with every month you pay. A few hundred dollars saved this year becomes over a thousand saved across a three-year commitment. That's not just money back in your account, it's resources you can redirect toward growth.

With typical VPS prices ranging from $252 to $2,160 for identical specs, choosing the right provider during Black Friday creates budget space for:

  • Several months of development time
  • Marketing campaign budgets
  • Additional infrastructure expansion
  • Professional services and tools
  • Emergency reserves for unexpected needs

Conclusion

In short, a Black Friday VPS deal is worth it when you have a few important points:

  1. Total cost beats regular pricing significantly (not just by a few dollars)
  2. Savings lock in for your full commitment period (no surprise rate increases)
  3. The included features match your actual needs (no hidden essential add-ons)
  4. The base pricing was competitive to begin with (deals from efficient providers beat sales from expensive ones)
  5. You can accurately predict requirements (avoid buying resources you won't use)

Most Black Friday VPS deals fail at least two of these criteria. Some fail all five.

The deals worth taking seriously come from providers with efficient operations and competitive regular pricing. Their Black Friday savings compound on top of existing value.

Calculate total cost. Verify price lock terms. Compare feature parity. Ignore marketing hype.

The math either works or it doesn't. Make decisions based on numbers, not urgency tactics or flashy percentages.

Your hosting foundation determines everything built on top of it. Choose based on genuine value, whether that's during Black Friday or any other time of year. The calendar date doesn't matter. The total cost does.

Introducing the SSD Nodes API: An Affordable VPS API for Automations https://www.ssdnodes.com/blog/introducing-the-ssd-nodes-api-an-affordable-vps-api-for-automations/ https://www.ssdnodes.com/blog/introducing-the-ssd-nodes-api-an-affordable-vps-api-for-automations/#respond Sat, 18 Oct 2025 07:43:34 +0000 https://www.ssdnodes.com/?p=13680 We are excited to announce a game-changing new feature here at SSD Nodes.

A powerful VPS API that gives you programmatic control over your entire VPS infrastructure.

Your day shouldn't revolve around navigating through endless dashboards. Manual server re-installations, checking snapshot, and deployment monitoring are time-consuming tasks that pull you away from more valuable work. That's precisely the problem we set out to solve with our VPS API.

Our customers told us they wanted to automate everything without the complexity and cost that usually comes with it. And we listened, so we shipped our REST API.

You now have access to enterprise-grade server management automation at affordable pricing.

VPS Provider That Can be Controlled with an API

SSD Nodes VPS Servers Can Now be Controlled With an API

Before the API, you could build and deploy applications on our VPS without issues, but scaling and automation became a real headache.

Need to manage ten servers for a major test? You'd waste hours clicking through the dashboard.

Want to check your entire server fleet's status? Get ready to open dozens of browser tabs.

Even experienced DevOps engineers lose valuable time on repetitive tasks.

What you actually need is simple: run "select server, install app, take snapshot" in your deployment script—no dashboard logins or manual clicking required.

The old way is frustrating. Log into the dashboard, click through menus, fill out forms, wait for confirmation, then do it all over again for each server.

Miss a single step and you risk breaking your entire setup.

We spent months building a better solution. Write your code once, automate everything from there.

You can now connect the SSD Nodes API with AI automation tools like n8n to manage your entire infrastructure intelligently.

How Our VPS API Works

SSD Nodes API

We worked on keeping things simple with three core concepts:

Authentication Tokens secure your API access. Generate them once in your dashboard, and then use them in every API call.

RESTful Endpoints follow standard conventions. GET requests retrieve information. POST requests make changes. The URLs are logical and predictable.

JSON Responses return structured JSON data your code can easily parse. All endpoints are consistent and documented.

Our architecture is designed for reliability and the rate limiting prevents accidental overuse.

We also made error messages very clear and actionable.

Building Your First Integration

Let's say you want to automatically deploy a web server. Here's the entire process:

  1. Generate your API token in the SSD Nodes dashboard under Profile > API Access Tokens.
    1. API Access Token
  2. List available servers to see what you're working with. Replace YOUR_TOKEN with the access token you just generated:
    • curl -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" \
         https://api.ssdnodes.com/servers

The output will have information on your server IDs, hostnames, billing status, and service dates.

For more information: List All VM's

  3. Check available operating systems to find what you need:
    • curl -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" \
         https://api.ssdnodes.com/operating-systems

    Sample output:

    [
      {
        "id": 1663,
        "operatingsystem": "ubuntu24.04|Ubuntu 24.04"
      },
      {
        "id": 1522,
        "operatingsystem": "debian12|Debian 12"
      },
      {
        "id": 1525,
        "operatingsystem": "centos-stream9|CentOS Stream 9"
      },
      {
        "id": 1505,
        "operatingsystem": "rocky9.0|Rocky Linux 9"
      },
      {
        "id": 1503,
        "operatingsystem": "ubuntu22.04|Ubuntu 22.04"
      }
    ]
  4. Check available 1-Click applications:
    • curl -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" \
         https://api.ssdnodes.com/apps
  5. Re-install a VM with a specific app or OS** (like WordPress or Ubuntu 24.04):Stop the VM first:

    • curl -X POST https://api.ssdnodes.com/servers//action/stop -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN"

You’ll need to replace <VM_ID> with the identification number associated with your VM.

Then re-install your desired app or OS by calling /reinstall:

    • curl -X POST https://api.ssdnodes.com/servers/40077/reinstall -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d "{\"reinstall_type\":\"app\",\"os_app_id\":,\"authentication\":\"pwd\"}"

Replace <OS_ID> with the ID of the app or OS you want to install (which you can get by calling /apps or /operating-systems)

Warning: Reinstalling a VM will wipe out all data on it, so please proceed with caution.

With this, your entire deployment takes only around 30 seconds to script, then runs automatically whenever you need it.

You can access your APIs directly from your SSD Nodes dashboard:

Advanced Use Cases

VPS With an API

Once you understand the basics, you can handle sophisticated automation scenarios like the follwoing:

Auto-Scaling Applications: Monitor server load. Stop and start servers as needed.

Disaster Recovery: Detect server failures and automatically restore from snapshots.

Development Workflows: Control isolated environments for each feature branch. Deploying, testing, and tear down automatically as part of your CI/CD pipeline.

Multi-Region Control: Control identical infrastructure across different geographic regions.

Compliance Automation: Automatically control daily snapshots, rotate old backups, and generate security audit reports without manual intervention.

Gaming Server Management: Manage player counts and optimize resource allocation based on how your users use your existing game servers.

Why an API Matters for Your Business

Server management used to force you into a choice: handle everything manually or invest in expensive enterprise solutions.

That's no longer the case.

You'll save time by automating repetitive work. Developers can spin up complete environments in minutes rather than hours. Those time savings multiply quickly when you're releasing features on a regular basis.

You'll save money by eliminating the need for pricey enterprise management platforms. Small teams can now automate their entire infrastructure without purchasing expensive software licenses.

You'll also rest easier knowing your deployments are consistent and dependable.

No more worrying about missed backups, misconfigured servers, or accidental database deletions 🙂

Plus you can now also use version control to manage server your infrastructure. Your server configurations live in Git alongside your application code. Control the same setup for development, staging, and production with confidence.

Notes On Reliability

Building APIs that developers actually want to use is hard. We obsessed over the details that matter:

Rate limiting prevents accidental abuse but allows legitimate high-volume usage. You can make a hundred requests per hour without hitting any restrictions.

Response times. Even complex operations like server re-installs with 1-click applications start immediately.

Error handling gives you actionable information. Instead of generic "something went wrong" messages, you get specific error codes and suggested solutions.

Documentation includes working examples for every endpoint. So all you need is just copy, paste, modify, then you got this.

Note: This API is included with your existing SSD Nodes service as an add-on. Which you can purchase directly from your dashboard for as little as 2$/mo.

Common API Integration Patterns for Your VPS

Here are some patterns that work well for most teams:

Infrastructure as Code: Store your server configurations in Git repositories. Deploy consistently across environments using the same scripts.

Monitoring Integration: Use the API to check server status from your monitoring tools. Create alerts when servers go down or resource usage spikes.

Backup Automation: Schedule regular snapshots through cron jobs or CI/CD pipelines. Automatically clean up old backups to manage storage costs.

Most of these patterns are easy to implement once you understand the API endpoints and response formats.

Try It Out

Log into your SSD Nodes account and look for "API Access" in the menu. Purchase a $2 subscription, then generate your first token and explore the documentation.

Start with a simple GET request to list your servers. See how clean the response format is. Then try a POST request to create a snapshot or restart a server.

You can now be the maestro of your server fleet.

If you run into any issues, our support team has knowledge about on every API endpoint. They can help you build the integration you need, or troubleshoot if something isn't working as expected.

14 Years Ago, Everyone Said We Were Crazy https://www.ssdnodes.com/blog/14-years-of-vps/ https://www.ssdnodes.com/blog/14-years-of-vps/#respond Tue, 17 Jun 2025 17:49:26 +0000 https://www.ssdnodes.com/?p=13302 SSD Nodes was started 14 years ago. Back then, our CEO was in college working a minimum wage job. The idea was simple - sell good servers for way less money than everyone else.

Sounds crazy, right? Turns out it worked.

The Early Days Were Rough

2011 was different. SSDs cost a fortune. Most hosting companies wouldn't touch them because the margins were terrible. Amazon didn't even offer SSD instances until 2012 or 2013.

We bought them anyway. Credit cards were maxed out, every dollar was scraped together. People thought we were idiots.

Maybe we were. But we're still here and those people... well, some of them aren't.

Early Days of SSD Nodes

Starting in a college dorm room with basically no money taught us something important - nothing can be wasted. Every server purchase mattered. Every customer support ticket was precious. Everything had to be done right because we couldn't afford to get it wrong.

Even now with 20+ people on the team and servers in 14 countries, we are still resourceful and flexible.

As our CEO Matt Connor reflected in our 7th-year interview: "I still think we're a startup in so many ways just because we're growing, we're learning, we're trying new things." That startup mentality has carried us through 14 years of continuous innovation.

What We Built This Year

Our 14th year was busy. Here's what we shipped:

Nested Virtualization

Nested Virtualization VPS

Virtual machines can now be run inside your VPS. This is a game-changer for development work. You can test dangerous code changes, try different operating systems, or run multiple isolated environments all on one server.

Break something in the nested VM? Just delete it and start over. Your main setup stays untouched. Check it out here.

API That Actually Works

Our new API allows everything to be controlled through code. Servers can be deployed, settings managed, deployments automated. It's what people have been asking for since day one.

Gaming Servers

SSD Nodes Gaming

We optimized our Performance VPS instances for gaming.

You can host pretty much any popular game. Minecraft servers for your friends. Counter-Strike matches with low ping. Rust servers that don't crash when 100 players join. ARK worlds that actually load fast.

The hardware is the same as our regular Performance VPS - we just realized gamers need reliable servers that don't cost a fortune. Most gaming hosts charge 3x what we do for worse performance. Check out our Gaming servers.

Vippy Improvements

Vippy, our custom virtualization software was made faster and more efficient.

Less overhead means better performance for the same price.

Public Uptime Stats

This one's huge. Real uptime numbers are now shown for all 14 locations. No hiding behind marketing speak. You can see exactly how our servers perform every day.

Most companies would never do this. What if the numbers are bad? What if downtime is seen by people?

Here's the thing - our uptime is actually really good. 99.99% across the board. Why not show it off?

The Numbers After 14 Years

  • 40,000 virtual machines (VMs) created
  • Zero outside investment (still bootstrapped)
  • 14 data centers across 6 continents
  • 99.99% uptime with public proof
  • Customers save up to 80% vs competitors

Why We're Different

What We Built This Year

Most hosting companies take investor money. That changes everything. Suddenly you're optimizing for growth metrics instead of customer happiness. You need 10x returns in 5 years. Prices go up. Quality goes down.

We never did that.

Being bootstrapped means decisions can be made based on what's right for customers. Want to keep prices low during inflation? Sure. Want to offer 3-year plans at crazy discounts? Why not. Want to spend extra on better hardware? Makes sense.

The big guys can't do this stuff. Their investors won't let them.

Support That Speaks for Itself

Our support gets mentioned by people in reviews all the time. It's not bots or outsourced chat. It's our actual engineers who know the systems.

This costs more money. It's "inefficient." Investors would hate it.

But customers love it. And happy customers stick around for years. They recommend us to friends. They upgrade when they need more resources.

Long-term thinking beats quarterly optimization every time.

What's Next

Year 15 is going to be interesting. The whole industry is changing. AI workloads need different resources. Edge computing is becoming real. Everyone wants APIs and automation.

Good thing this stuff has been built by us already.

The API capabilities are being expanded. More automation options are being added. New locations are being looked at where it makes sense.

All this, without changing our core philosophy: premium infrastructure at prices that don't hurt.

Thanks

Fourteen years is a long time in tech. Most startups are dead or sold by year 7. We're just getting started.

This happened because customers chose us over bigger, fancier alternatives. A small company was trusted with production workloads. We were recommended to colleagues. Feedback was given that made our product better.

That means everything.

The next 14 years are going to be fun.
